The Department: Software Engineering 

Gemini is regulated and licensed like a bank, but it’s run like a tech startup, and engineering is the core of the company.  There’s a wide range of tough problems to solve at Gemini – from properly securing hundreds of millions of dollars worth of customer funds, to developing innovative new blockchain products, to finding new techniques to combat fraud, to shaving microseconds off our API response times, and everything in between.

All of Gemini’s engineers are able to work across the software platform, not just on their own specialization or subteam. We value a thoughtful, collaborative software development process, coupled with a pragmatic approach to problem solving and delivering software.

The Role: Manager, Software Engineering


  • Create and evolve a structure and organization design for your team
  • Create maintainable software, execute code review and testing, using Scala & Java up to 20% of your time.
  • Drive performance for your team and hold them accountable to externally and internally imposed deadlines and targets
  • Make hiring plans and hiring decisions
  • Give frequent feedback and coaching to your team members, coordinating with people from around the company to get a full understanding of your team’s performance
  • Provide a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for your team to execute on its priorities and evolve its capabilities over time.
  • Communicate at all levels from senior leaders to individual contributors, including technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Adapt the team’s plans and goals to changing realities in a fast-moving industry
  • Effectively resolve ambiguity, helping the team to analyze complex requirements and break down features and initiatives into tasks
  • Own the team’s output, taking responsibility for everyone’s performance
  • Quickly ramp up on relevant industry and competitive trends


    • 8+ years of experience in software development & delivery
    • 3+ years of managing engineering teams, delivering high quality software for customers
    • Technical aptitude to ask engineers good questions about architecture and product decisions
    • Experience with modern software engineering concepts
    • Interest AND/OR Expertise in Scala or in a similar backend programming languages.
    • Experience establishing successful partnerships with key stakeholders such as product managers, project managers, and business owners.

Reporting directly to the VP Engineering Consumer, you will be responsible to build, grow and maintain all exchange features in Ledger Live (Buy, Sell, Swap) and make Ledger Live the best secure gateway into web3.


  • Management
  • - Build, manage, mentor and lead global teams
    - Work with People team to attract, hire, onboard and retain diverse top talent
    - Support career development and training of engineers in your teams
    - Work with engineers to grow their technical, interpersonal, and leadership skills, and ensure they have the right challenges and necessary context to make use of them

  • Delivery
  • - Ensure that all projects allocated to your teams run to time and/or budget
    - To create a clear and effective roadmap for the teams you own, and seamlessly integrate committed work with potential and future work
    - Continually develop the team to improve effectiveness, efficiency and productivity
    - Actively question decisions and provide guidance and own experience to ensure no stone is left unturned and risks are identified and highlighted

  • Tech
  • - Contribute to the overall engineering at Ledger
    - Providing an environment for significant product and system innovation and improvement
    - Proactively ensure that security, reliability, performance and cost-efficiency are included in technical and architectural discussions
    - Keep up to date with the latest relevant technologies, continually evaluating their use for Ledger

  • Leadership
  • - Lead and take full accountability for your actions and decisions made across teams you’re responsible for
    - Work closely with teams, product owners, agile coaches and other stakeholders
    - Ensuring the company mission and vision is communicated effectively and translated into team roadmaps
    - Grow and mentor a team of engineers, ensuring engineering best practices are followed leading by example

    What we’re looking for

  • 3+ years of combined experience in leading & managing a software team of 3+ engineers
  • You’ll be leading an international team of engineers, you need to be proficient in English
  • You love developing and growing people
  • A solid background in React.js with demonstrable career progression through roles with increasing technical proficiency
  • Experience with cryptocurrencies, ideally having built exchange-like features previously
  • Alternatively, a strong experience in E-commerce or Fintech and driving conversion rate optimizations is a must
  • A passion for engineering practices and proven track record driving change
  • Good technical architectural skills
  • Able to lead by example, a hands-on technical engineer who has ‘been there and done that’
  • You have demonstrated strong leadership skills while working with engineers
  • It’s an hands-on role, technically strong enough to take part in the work
  • Comfortable in dealing with change and uncertainty during the software development lifecycle
  • Very good knowledge about Agile development practices
  • Acting as a role model under delivery and time pressures across multiple stakeholders
  • Good written and oral communication skills at management level
  • You have excellent communication skills with which to build relationships, trust, and respect, and are able to leverage this to grow people and the organization
